Malcolm Wall has built his career from the ground up. Based in Stokesley near Teesside. He came into industry aged 16 through a four-year apprenticeship at NETA, sponsored by the ECITB and seconded to Redpath Engineering Services in Stockton-on-Tees. That early grounding gave him practical experience of engineering discipline, fabrication, industrial delivery, and the realities of working in demanding environments. It also shaped the style he is known for today: practical, resilient, calm under pressure, and focused on results.

From there, Malcolm studied Mechanical Engineering at Northumbria University in Newcastle, before strengthening his commercial and leadership capability through postgraduate study in Business and Enterprise Management at Durham University and Project Management at the University of Manchester. He went on to become a Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, combining technical credibility with business perspective and strategic judgment.

His first graduate role was with Foster Wheeler, and he has progressed through every level of project and business delivery, from engineering, design and construction roles to project engineering, project management, business leadership, operations, and strategy. That journey from apprentice to executive is one of the reasons his perspective carries weight. He has seen complex organisations from the shop floor to the boardroom and understands what success and failure looks like at each level.

Malcolm has held roles with Foster Wheeler, Amec AmecFW, Wood, Jacobs, and Amentum, and has worked with clients including BP, Shell, ConocoPhillips, National Grid, EDF, and Sellafield Ltd. Across that career he has supported major projects, (EP&C), business growth, bidding for new work, supply chain management, recruitment, restructuring, operational improvements, training and transformation. He has also been involved in transitions, mergers, cultural change, and performance improvement, giving him a practical understanding of how businesses evolve and what leaders must do when the context is shifting.

Much of Malcolm’s career has been spent in complex, high-hazard, and highly regulated sectors, particularly nuclear, oil and gas. His project history includes Oman LNG, major National Grid gas compression and expansion programmes, FEED and feasibility studies, and long-term programme delivery in nuclear decommissioning. He was part of the success of the South Wales Expansion Project for National Grid - recognised as ECI European Project of the Year in 2011, which he accepted on behalf of the project and AMEC.

These are environments where travel, delivery pressure, commercial tension, stakeholder scrutiny, and leadership accountability are all immediate and real, and Malcolm has built a strong reputation for operating effectively in exactly those conditions.

A defining thread throughout his career has been joint ventures, collaborative working, and leadership across organisational boundaries. Malcolm has deep experience of working with multi-business, multinational and multi-disciplinary teams, helping organisations align around shared goals in settings where priorities, pressures, and interests do not always naturally line up.

His work has included facilitation, collaboration, leadership development, simplification, business consistency, supplier relationship management, transformation, and benefits realisation. He has also been involved with the Major Projects Association with Amec, and recently published a Major Projects Association article helping explain how TDA’s leadership training programme was developed to strengthen capability, enhance partnerships, and build leadership excellence across the organisation.

Malcolm is particularly valued for his ability to deal with difficult projects and difficult relationships. Over many years he has worked in environments where unclear accountability, competing agendas, personality clashes, pressure, and conflict can easily undermine performance. He is known in his team for helping resolve tension, rebuild trust, improve communication, expand supply chains and restore momentum. He combines persistence with emotional intelligence, and operational realism with people-centred leadership. That makes him especially effective when the challenge is not only technical or commercial, but also relational and cultural.

He is also recognised for helping organisations thrive in complexity. His track record includes performance improvement, business excellence, cultural change, coaching and leadership development. He understands how to simplify complexity without losing substance and without damaging trust. This all helps to improve the way people and businesses think, behave, and perform.

Since 2016, Malcolm has operated in a role at Sellafield through the DNWP/TDA framework, working in one of the UK’s most demanding delivery environments. His focus has included collaboration, communication, safety, leadership development, recruitment, retention, supplier relationship management, business improvement, transformation, and benefits realisation.

After serving as Business Lead on TDA since 2023, he is now Strategy Lead for TDA in 2026, helping shape the long-term direction and value of the partnership. He also supports socioeconomic work in Cumbria, and the supply chain clusters, reflecting a broader commitment to place, people, and regional impact as well as business performance.

Alongside his company based career, Malcolm has invested heavily in the human side of leadership and performance. He is an NLP Practitioner and NLP Executive Coach, and has also trained in Clean Language coaching, facilitation, systems thinking, and executive leadership. His executive leadership development has included programmes with the Amec Academy (supported by Coverdale) in Aberdeen, Atlanta, and London. He has also worked with experienced trainers and consultants to devise leadership programmes and has coached, mentored, and trained dozens of people whist on projects.

Over many years in industry he has built an extensive and broad-reaching network of contacts, associates, consultants, and senior leaders. That network complements his own experience and enables him to connect clients with additional capability where needed.
